Plus, we learn about the Stuart Collection, that’s been commissioning site-specific public art for the UC San Diego campus since 1981.

The Borrego Art Institute kicks off its 2023-2024 gallery season Oct. 7 with "The Art of Flora, Fauna and Earth’s Elements," showcasing our world’s astonishing plants, animals and elements. New and returning regional artists will present their work in a variety of mediums in the main gallery. In the north gallery, "Heat Echoes: Infrared Landscapes and Other Works" by photographer Jerry Berkstresser will feature scenes from the Eastern Sierra and the Sonoran and Mojave deserts. This exhibit includes traditional black and white and infrared photography. Without the distraction of color, Berkstresser urges the viewer to focus on other aspects—shapes, patterns and the overall composition of the photograph. Infrared photography takes it a step further. Beyond the color red, the infrared spectrum extends outside the range of human perception. Heat Echoes opens a window into that spectrum. The opening reception is October 7 from 4-7 p.m. The shows run October 7-29.

The Forum Carlsbad, an outdoor lifestyle shopping in the heart of Carlsbad, is excited to bring back its signature event, the Art & Wine Walk, on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 3 to 6 p.m. Throughout the free event, guests can stroll around the center to view artwork from visiting and local artists in participating shops. Along the way, stop by two Wine Gardens for a special wine tasting and live acoustic music. The Wine Garden presented by Jimbo’s will offer guests an opportunity to taste a variety of wines and complimentary bites from Mirabelle Charcuterie, Carlsbad's premier charcuterie company where ingredients are fresh, in-season and locally sourced. Guests can also enjoy the acoustic sounds of Marelle in the Garden Area and David Shyde in the Breezeway throughout the event. Guests must be 21 years or older to enter the Wine Gardens.

Join Dance It Out this Mother’s Day to celebrate and dance with the magical Mamas in our lives! Hosted, DJed, and facilitated by DJ Clairevoyant and Kira Olsson. All ages are welcome to join in the fun; babies are strongly encouraged to wear headphones. Dance It Out is a conscious dance experience that provides a safe space for free dance, alongside facilitated movement. Dancers are encouraged to connect with their bodies, to let the music move them, and to groove as themselves in community with others. This is a sober event where all bodies and abilities are welcome and celebrated.
