  • Backyard Renaissance presents... "HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE" by Paula Vogel directed by Anthony Methvin Cast: Megan Carmitchel, Francis Gercke, William Huffaker, Karson St. John, and Emilee Zuniga A wildly funny, surprising and heartbreaking tale of survival as seen through the lens of a troubling relationship between a young girl and an older man. "HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE" is the story of a woman who learns the rules of the road and life from behind the wheel. Winner of the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for Drama “With subtle humor and teasing erotic encounters, Vogel addresses the dangerous intersections of teenage temptation. The play is a potent and convincing comment on a taboo subject, and its impact sneaks up on its audience.”—Variety Related links: Backyard Renaissance Theatre Company: website | Instagram | Facebook
  • We open the ninth season of our Haydn Voyages series with a program that features two Haydn quartets that show the master composer at the peak of his creative powers, though 15 years apart (his opus 33, no. 4 from 1781 and his later opus 76, no. 1 from 1796). Between these two we’ll take a trip up the coast for a taste of Hollywood, featuring Erich Korngold’s second quartet from 1933, when he was starting to establish himself as one of the great composers of Hollywood film scores. Nicole Lizee’s Another Living Soul (written in 2016 for the Kronos Quartet’s 50 For the Future project) is a wild ride: her tribute to stop motion animation calls for actual bells and whistles! Haydn – Quartet No. 60 in G Major, Op. 76, No. 1 (1796) Nicole Lizee – Another Living Soul (2016) Haydn – Quartet No. 34 in B♭ Major, Op. 33, No. 4 (1781) Korngold – Quartet No. 2 in E♭ Major, Op. 26 (1933)
