  • The 15th century was one of astonishing and almost uninterrupted artistic achievement in the area controlled by the Dukes of Burgundy and referred to as the Burgundian Netherlands. This area included the current countries of Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and a portion of northern France. Netherlandish artists extended the boundaries of painting until they seemed as limitless as the blue-tinged mountains of the distant horizons in their paintings. Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden became the most renowned painters in Europe, van Eyck acquiring legendary status perfecting the technique of oil paint and almost impossible representation of minute detail, practices that clearly distinguish Northern art from Italian art as well as art from the preceding centuries. Works by these masters were sought by princes and merchants throughout Europe, who prized them for their remarkable qualities of verisimilitude, their technical and coloristic virtuosity, and their heightened expressive power. In this docent-led talk we’ll focus on how Netherlandish artists achieved their common goal - to make the painted image vividly present and to render the unseen palpable. • Embark on a nostalgic voyage through the shimmering seas of music with Yacht Rock Revue, the ultimate purveyors of the smooth, yacht rock sound and who many reverently consider the godfathers of Yacht Rock. Hailing from Atlanta, GA this sensational band has captivated audiences worldwide with their immaculate renditions of classic hits from the late '70s and early '80s. Inspired by the golden era of soft rock, Yacht Rock Revue has mastered the art of recreating the breezy and laid-back tunes that defined a generation. From the sun-kissed melodies of Steely Dan and Michael McDonald to the velvety harmonies of Hall & Oates, their repertoire spans an ocean of beloved hits that evoke memories of palm trees, ocean breezes, and carefree summers. Their original compositions are a modern ode to the genre, capturing the essence of those bygone days while infusing it with a fresh and invigorating twist. Their first original record, titled Hot Dads In Tight Jeans, showcases the bands complete range of skills that simultaneously transports the listener to a more modern era. While “Step,” the record’s first single, is a peppy number replete with falsetto and bumping bass, the rest of the album is more akin to Phoenix or Air, the hip bands that adapted Yacht for a younger audience. Whether you're a longtime lover of the yacht rock era or a newcomer to its smooth grooves, Yacht Rock Revue promises an unforgettable journey across the azure waters of musical history. So grab your captain's hat and set sail with Yacht Rock Revue for a melodic adventure like no other. 2-day pass available. For more information visit: humphreysconcerts.com Stay Connected on Facebook
  • From Space 4 Art: We are thrilled to announce that San Diego's Poet Laureate, Jason Magabo Perez, will join us as both a guest studio artist and guest performer at our next Open Studios on Saturday, June 10 from 4:00-8:00 PM! His time with us will culminate in a performance, perhaps even including a collaborative piece created during our event! As usual, most of our other visual arts studios will be open, and other S4A musicians will also perform.
