  • VirgoTwins — the Chicago-born/West Coast-based duo of MC Gilead7 (of Chicago hip-hop legends Tomorrow Kings) and San Diego-based underground producer Boricua Sandy (Roc Marciano, 2MEX). The duo is performing at Corazon del Barrio on Saturday, July 8 in support of their new album, "ArtSpace" (out now). "ArtSpace" is a ten-song meditation reminiscent of underground hip-hop during the early 2000s (think Atmosphere’s "Overcast!" And Sonic Sum’s "The Sanity Index"). Sandy — known for her work in San Diego’s underground scene — produced the album’s lush and intelligent instrumentals while Gilead7 floats imaginative and sharp bars on top. The Chicago Sun Times reviewed the album, saying ""ArtSpace" is a stunner, as lavish conceptually as it is musically; the album rewards close — and repeated — listening.” Stay Connected on Social Media! He later pursued a degree in classical piano at the National Conservatory in Mexico and in 1993 enrolled in Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory, where he graduated magna cum laude in Jazz Studies. Following nine albums and 18 years as one of the most cherished of Pat Metheny’s collaborators, Sánchez has also recorded and performed with Gary Burton, Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden and Chick Corea. In 2014 Sánchez’s popularity soared when he scored Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman which ended up garnering four Academy Awards (including Best Picture). Today, Sánchez is among the most sought-after jazz drummers in the world and has been Modern Drummer’s “Jazz Drummer of the Year” on multiple occasions. This fun workshop offers a perfect introduction to Kiln-Formed (fused) glass for beginners, and allows those who have worked with glass before to hone their abilities and finesse their skills. You will learn how fused glass differs from other forms of art glass, how to use the various tools involved in creating glass art, and how to cut and grind the glass you will be using in your wearable art project. Using a colorful array of glass and pre-fired adornments, you’ll construct abstract or representational designs to be fashioned into earrings, pendants, rings, cuff links, even belt buckles! Each student will have plenty of space in the kiln for several items!
