  • The Carlsbad Oceanside Art League is pleased to announce a call for art for its upcoming youth art exhibition, “Inspire”. It is the 27th annual youth art exhibition and will be showcasing the talents and creativity of young artists from the San Diego County area. The exhibition, titled "Inspire," will feature a variety of artwork, including paintings, drawings, and mixed media pieces, all created by talented young artists aged 8-18. The "Inspire" exhibition represents one of the organization's missions to encourage and support the creative expression of young artists in our community. The exhibition is a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of these young artists, who have poured their hearts and souls into their work. A hosted reception will be on May 13, 2023, between 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gallery located at 300 Carlsbad Village Dr. Suite 101. Awards and refreshments will be served and free to the public.   • Oumou Sangaré is an internationally renowned and award-winning singer, composer, business pioneer, and activist who champions women’s rights in her native Mali and throughout Africa. Sangaré’s style is wassalou, a popular musical genre derived from folk traditions in the rural southwestern part of the country. She’s earned acclaim for her many recording landmarks, from her 1989 debut "Moussolou", with its traditional wassalou sound; to 1996’s "Worotan", which featured a horn section arranged by funk legend Pee Wee Ellis; to 2009’s "Seya", which won Sangaré the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album. In this workshop, we guide you from start to finish as you select, cut, hot glue and assemble the pieces and personality of your own customized puppet. No sewing is required in this workshop.   • Sophie's Gallery and Bread & Cie present Skate of Mind - State of Mind, a collection of hand-painted skateboards by artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Artists explored themes of independence while creating personal stories of inspiration places they have visited or wish to visit. Along their journey artists learned new techniques including perspective, composition, texture, color, using different paint mediums and tools. and working collaboratively together. Skate of Mind runs July 6 through August 10. Sophie's Gallery is an art program of St. Madeleine Sophie's Center. All skateboards are for sale and benefit the artists and Sophie's Gallery.   • The San Diego Watercolor Society proudly presents “Color Scheming”, juried by award-winning artist, Stephanie Goldman. The water-based media exhibition runs May 28-July 1, 2023 at our Gallery in The ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. The Opening Reception is Friday, June 2, 5-8 p.m. with over 95 ready-to-hang original paintings plus refreshments and the fellowship of other art enthusiasts. The Opening Reception will also feature a special showcase of original art and photography by over 20 creative emerging artists from the Just in Time Foster Youth Group, a non-profit organization that provides services and support to youth that have timed out of the foster care system.
