There will be so much happening during our next Open Studios! • Most of our Visual Artist studios will be open. • Artist Linda Litteral will read an excerpt from her book, Show and Tell: Healing From Trauma Through Art. • Musicians Jonathan Piper, Nick Lesley, Ariana Warren and Chris Warren will perform. • Dancers from North County-based Kerani Performing Arts, led by Artistic Director Sheela Kinhal Shah, will showcase Indian Classical Fusion dances. • Traditional Holi celebrations include throwing colors to spread happiness and love, so we will use colored powder to lightly color anyone who wants to participate. • Bring credit, cash, or use Venmo to sample some Indian samosas and drinks. Clay Hoffman will speak on “The Irish Brigade of the Civil War.” This renowned unit consisted predominantly of Irish Americans who fought for the Union, most of whom were recent immigrants. Often leading the charge, the Irish Brigade suffered one of the highest casualty rates of any Union brigade during the war. The Irishmen were known for their Gaelic war cry of “Faugh a ballaugh,” meaning "Clear the way.” Clay Hoffman is a longtime member of the San Diego Civil War Round Table and has written dozens of articles on historical topics. His recent book is "A Pearl of Uganda: The Story of Holy Innocents Children's Hospital."ss

Offering a quick escape from reality, expect a show that will leave you laughing, in awe, and possibly deviously disturbed. Located at Connect San Diego's Ocean Beach adjacent event venue, PeculiariTEASE will be a seated event creating a runway-like stage where audience members will get the chance to experience the show in an intimate setting. With a run time of just over an hour, the event will run from start to finish with no intermission. Please arrive when doors open at 2:30 p.m. to get checked in and experience the peculiar atmosphere created to enhance your viewing experience. Ellington’s suite (created with Billy Strayhorn) was inspired by a 1963 State Department tour that was cut short – they didn’t make it to the “Far East” – and serves as a perfect foil for SSP!’s blend of East European, Romani, and American sounds. Critics call it “a pretty heavenly match” (TimeOut NY) and say “parts of SSP’s reinterpretation sounds like a Bulgarian wedding, others like a gypsy jazz funeral in New Orleans.
