Explore mindfulness-based writing using fun prompts to collectively inspire and deepen your intuitive expression. Participants in this one-session creative writing workshop will be inspired by a series of short, in-class prompts with a poem and pictures. The aim is to boost creativity and deepen each participant’s intuitive expression through contemplative practices. We will start this workshop with a brief mindfulness settling-in exercise—and a poem to accompany the session’s theme. And after each writing prompt, participants will be encouraged to discuss their work in small groups. This intuitive creation process is highly motivating; it enhances self-awareness and the flow of ideas and connection with others. As a creative writing teacher and published author since 2007, and a trained mindfulness teacher since 2017, I enjoy fostering unique and brave spaces for participants to gather from all backgrounds and walks of life. This course is designed for every type of writer: novelists, poets, screenwriters, playwrights, journalists, essayists, etc., with all levels of experience: from novice writers to seasoned authors. We will focus on the collective inspiration derived from a fresh series of fun and original writing prompts. Just bring a pen and notebook to our online class… And come as you are! Creative Storytime with Ms. Katia Athenaeum Music & Arts Library 1008 Wall Street, La Jolla, CA 92037 Wednesday, November 5, 2025 10:30 a.m. The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is thrilled to announce its newest offering for young families: Creative Storytime with Ms. Katia. This new program, held on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m., is designed to introduce children to the magic of storytelling while fostering an early love for music, art, and literature. Geared for ages 2–5, Creative Storytime is a free, interactive experience featuring songs and stories that celebrate creativity and imagination. After the program, families are invited to stay and explore the Athenaeum’s extraordinary children’s collection, a treasure trove of books on music and art. This collection highlights the library’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of readers and creators. About Ms. Katia Creative Storytime will be led by Katia Graham, a passionate librarian, storyteller, and advocate for literacy. Based in San Diego, Graham brings a wealth of experience and creativity to the Athenaeum. She is a member of the Freedom to Read Statement Taskforce for the Office for Intellectual Freedom of the American Library Association and has served as Youth Services Librarian at La Jolla/Riford Public Library and Children’s Librarian at Coronado Public Library. Graham is the founder of Librarian on the Go, an initiative dedicated to promoting literacy and information access. She has a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Southern California, a second master’s in broadcast journalism from Columbia University, and a bachelor’s degree in English from Barnard College. A former reporter, Graham honed her storytelling skills in newsrooms, including KYMA, NY1 News, and ABC World News Tonight. In addition to her other programs, she proudly leads a bilingual storytime and developed San Diego Public Library's initiative to combat the Spanish disinformation crisis. A sensory friendly experience at the Museum Sensory Friendly Mornings is held quarterly on select Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. This program is intended for families who would enjoy and appreciate a quieter Museum experience with fewer guests and less stimulation than our general museum hours offer. Our interactive art installations vary from high-sensory activities to designated sensory-break zones that provide a range of experiences for families to enjoy with comfort and safety.
