  • Join us for our upcoming exhibition ”VIBRANTE” with Tijuana based ceramic studio lustre.estudio We will be hosting “VIBRANTE” at our gallery from September 21, through the 29. Opening reception will be on Saturday, September 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Lustre Studio community will present works from their collective that seek to build a sanctuary of well-being. Through the use of vibrant colors and conceptual proposals their ceramic art will take visitors to a state of pleasure and comfort. As part of our opening reception, we’ll also be including special performances by bambulamusic, nicole.mcfly, & kissingerisdead at the backlot of the gallery.
  • Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. September 27 (1 day, 3.5 total hours of instruction) On location at La Jolla Shores In this one-day workshop, students will learn more about plein air technique and painting the figure outdoors. We will paint from a life model on location at La Jolla Shores. Students are also welcome to draw instead of paint from the model if they prefer. Materials: Oil paints: Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Lemon,* Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White (large tube,) Cadmium Orange Pure. Brushes: Robert Simmons white natural bristle flat # 40F, sizes 2,3, 4, and 6, and a small, pointed sable brush for detail; small steel palette knife. Other: Portable easel; Compose-It Grid 6 in 1; several 6” x 8” or 8” x 10” canvas boards; Gamsol odorless solvent; small cup or container; 12” x 16” wooden palette; paper towels; sun hat; old shirt. If you choose to draw the model: Drawing board; paper or sketchbook; graphite; eraser; vine charcoal; charcoal pencils. * Buy only pure Cadmium colors/not hues. Plein air painting is an excellent way to learn about oil painting technique and triumph over creative issues while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow artists.
