The work includes many moments in which Massenet is at his best and most widely accessible, from the pageantry and glowing musical nostalgia for the French baroque in the court scenes to the otherworldliness of the love music to the wit and humor that permeate the work as a whole.

Forever Balboa Park offers thematic park tours that focus on the park’s unique biodiversity and highlight the park’s horticultural wonders on the second Saturday of each month. Led by park volunteer and horticultural enthusiast Bill Edwards, the free tours leave from the Visitors Center at 10:00 a.m. Balboa Park features numerous trees from around the world that have monument status in the State of California. These “Guinness Book of Record Flora” are frequently noted on the internet and on various lists of amazing trees. The tour will point out their unusual features and provide background on their uses in the places where they originated around the globe.
