  • Way Outside the Lines presents Destination Joy! An immersive art collaboration between San Diego neighborhoods utilizing art and the MTS Trolley System to foster solidarity and raise awareness. The Urban Collaborative Project and lead artist, Khalil Bleux, are partnering with some exceptional artists and cultural practitioners from San Ysidro, Chula Vista, National City, and Southeast San Diego for a 2-day event on August 3rd and 4th from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. on the MTS Trolley cars and select Trolley stations: San Ysidro- Iris Avenue Transit Station, Chula Vista- E Street Transit Center, National City- 24th Street Transit Center, Downtown- Park and Market, Southeast San Diego- Euclid Avenue Transit Station and Jacobs Center. The organizers of this immersive event recognize the transformative power of art, cultural practice, and solidarity in working toward equity and justice. The 2-day art program aims to inspire community engagement and raise awareness regarding the impact of systemic racism and oppressive practices such as redlining. There are two ways to enjoy this special event. Reserve a ticket for the FREE full-ride, guided immersive experience or go to any of the four FREE Trolley Station Activation sites. Community members can stop at each Trolley Station Activation to explore thought-provoking art and cultural performances. The tour will end at Destination JOY! an amazing day-long event at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center in Southeast San Diego. This campaign is supported through Far South/Border North, a California Creative Corps program implemented by the City of San Diego in partnership with Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties, the San Diego Regional Arts and Culture Coalition, and the San Diego Foundation. It is funded, in part, by the California Arts Council, a state agency. Community partners include Agency 515, Southeast Art Team, Grioneers Inc., Ajency Arts, Mundo Gardens, Vision Culture Foundation, The Homegrown Project, Chula Vista Yoga Center, SBCS (formerly known as South Bay Community Services), Blk Box Gallery, MTS, UC San Diego Park & Market, Joe & Vi Jacobs Center, and RISE San Diego. The Urban Collaborative Project (UCP) envisions a vibrant, connected, and healthy Southeast San Diego community leading in equity and resident-driven impact for sustainable and transformative change. Noel Paul Stookey, who recently celebrated his 86th birthday and his 65th year as a recognized activist singer/songwriter, has been altering both the musical and ethical landscape of this country and the world for decades, both as the “Paul” of the legendary Peter, Paul and Mary and as an independent musician who passionately believes in bringing the spiritual into the practice of daily life. He has recorded over fifty albums, both as part of the legendary trio and as a soloist. With the recent death of Peter Yarrow and the 2009 death of Mary Travers, Noel is now the only living member of that trio. While acknowledging his history and the meaningful association with Peter and Mary, the trio perhaps best known for its blend of modern folk music and social activism, rallying support for safe energy, peace, and civil rights at some of the most iconic events in our history, including the 1963 March on Washington with Martin Luther King, Jr., Noel has stepped beyond the nostalgia of the folk era. Funny, irreverently reverent, thoughtful, compassionately passionate, Noel’s voice is known across this land, from the Wedding Song to In These Times. Nearly two million dollars, earned from his now-classic Wedding Song, were used to fund the work of other socially responsible artists, which inspired Noel in 2018, along with his daughter Liz Stookey Sunde, to launch Music to Life, a national nonprofit that connects socially conscious musicians with the training, resources, and mentorship they need to realize their bold visions for community change. “Stookey is the same brilliant impressionist, the same gangling comedian, and the same smooth vocalist he has always been. But outside of the group, (PPM), that made him famous, his versatility has expanded.”~ Salem Evening News Kevin Roth has been performing on our stage for years, and collaborating with Noel Stookey even longer. His career has taken him to a concert and symphony stages around the world, to festivals, radio, television shows, and two appearances at the White House. He will sing some songs with his rich baritone and play some tunes on his deviant dulcimer.

  • For the over 30 years, the San Diego Bunnyfest has been the largest annual event and fundraiser for the San Diego House Rabbit Society (SDHRS). This event is an open-air festival. Activities include a silent auction, art social, mini educational lectures, bunny photo booth, games, children’s crafts and 30+ vendors selling bunny-themed merchandise & services. San Diego House Rabbit Society discourages bringing unvaccinated house rabbits to Bunnyfest and any other outdoor events at this time. If you choose to bring your house rabbit to Bunnyfest, they must have a current vaccine against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus-2 (RHDV2) administered by a veterinarian. It takes a village to keep San Diego House Rabbit Society going and the operational cost per year to care for the rabbits can exceed $630, 000 per year and all proceeds from Bunnyfest help to defray those costs.
