The THEATRE ORGAN SOCIETY of San Diego will present a unique program on Saturday August 10, 2024 at 2 p.m. featuring RYOKI YAMAGUCHI – Japan’s premier Theatre Organist. RYOKI’s concert performance will feature theatre organ favorites and Americana selections played on our 4 Manual 24 Rank 1927 WURLITZER Theatre Pipe Organ. Mr. Yamaguchi is a graduate of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and has distinguished himself as an exceptionally talented musician in classical and theatre organ circles. He tours extensively throughout the world and has played in notable world class venues. RYOKI has a special connection with San Diego. In 2022, the American Theatre Organ Society’s National Convention was held in San Diego and he surprised and dazzled audiences as a featured concert artist. Shortly thereafter, he returned to San Diego to record a new album on our 1927 WURLIZTER. This textile art technique has been used in the making of rugs, homes (yurts) and clothing for centuries. In this class, the instructor will guide you, step by step, through the making of a felted flower. Starting with a soft merino wool, you will be creating your own one-of-a-kind flower choosing from a wide selection of dyed wool. After using soap and water to bind the fibers, you will take home a forever flower that will embellish any space. Your flower can be used as a bookmark, tied around a curtain or the strap of a purse, placed in a vase or given as a sweet gift…. The possibilities are endless! No experience necessary. Comic-Con’s 2024 Masquerade on-stage costume competition, a tradition at Comic-Con since 1974, will be Saturday evening, July 27, starting at 8:30 p.m. The event celebrates not only the contribution of costuming to the popular arts but also the amazing creations that our attendees make and bring to the convention. The costume presentations, intermission entertainment, and awards presentation will run approximately two and a half hours and be set in the convention center’s 3,900-seat Ballroom 20, with overflow seating available with large screens in the Sails Pavilion and in a second ballroom.
