"Beyond the Border, en Plein Air" takes visitors on a visual journey starting from the public parks, regional and national parks, into neighborhoods, past historical sites of architectural marvel, along the bay, and the serene Pacific shoreline. The journey concludes with a tranquil finale at the dock, leaving a lasting impression of the journey's diverse landscapes. This journey, much like the artistic process, is a transformative one where each step reveals new perspectives and insights. The exhibition offers a space where plein air artists share their unique interpretations of the world around them. Each painting is the artist's experience, inviting viewers to pause and reflect. The time and consideration given by each artist enriches the public's understanding of the artistic journey, making the exhibition a shared experience of discovery and appreciation. From the organizers: Quint Gallery is pleased to present a new suite of paintings made by Monique van Genderen since a summer stay in Sea Ranch, a beacon of modernist architecture located on Highway 1 in Sonoma County and set between the coast and the Gualala river. In addition to van Genderen's paintings, there will be a short film and documentation of the central painting in progress by Lile Kvantaliani, and an original poem by Jennifer Moxley, responding to the film. "Three works that were made for each other. In support of each other. In reaction to each other. First the painting, then its documentation, then documentation on the person that made the painting. Then the poem, it’s logic is modular, one of response and repetition. The poet mixed up the lines and let the images guide her. Precise and timed, tuned to a moment in mid-August. But anyone can do it. You can do it too. You can say the lines in response to the images, the soundtrack, the person. Two friends from different generations went on a trip. They had in mind to make their own works, using each other’s company, in support of each other’s work. The film was to be about the death of an artist. Maybe it still is. The paintings are also a process of response and repetition. They have images that obstinately repeat, putting the pressure on to remember something that looks like something else. The order is embedded in the process, and the process becomes transparent, closing the loop to make the circle. Fans during each of the shows will be invited to launch their song requests to the stage via paper airplanes. Widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation, the Emmy-nominated singer-songwriter-composer has created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. For the past three decades, he’s toured as a pop artist, while also performing with some of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras. A New York Times Best Selling author and podcast host, Ben also composes for film, tv and theatre, guest stars in films and TV, and serves as the Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. A longtime advocate for arts and music education funding, Ben launched a music education charitable initiative in his native state of North Carolina entitled “Keys For Kids,” which provides funds and keyboards to existing nonprofits that provide free or affordable music lessons to interested school-age children.
