Exposure Skate, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in north county San Diego, is hosting a free learn-to-skate clinic for women and nonbinary adults 18 and up on Saturday from 3-5 p.m. at Encinitas Community Park. This monthly program, “Sesh(E)” features free skate instruction from local Olympic and pro skateboarders as well as opportunities to participate in acts of service. This month, the Exposure will be collecting canned goods to donate to the Community Resource Center’s Food and Nutrition Services. On Sunday afternoon, May 21, PHES Gallery will open its newest exhibition, “Story Quilts” in Carlsbad, CA. "Story Quilts" features the work of eleven local textile and fiber artists; Sandra Lauterbach, Nancy Lemke, Viviana Lombrozo, Nelda McComb, Dan Olfe, Marty Ornish, Karen Rips, Tara Ritacco, Dinah Sargeant, Deborah Weir, and Susan Willen. Calling all Poets! A poetry writing competition will be held at PHES Gallery in conjunction with “Story Quilts.” Please join us for a creative dive into ekphrastic poetry - poetry written in response to art. The public will have the opportunity to write a poem (or poems) in response to the show at the Gallery. Submissions will be accepted through June 11. Each entry must include the quilt number, your name, and the title of your poem. Poems will be performed in the Gallery courtyard on June 25 at 5 p.m., followed by a poet's reception.
