Mainly Mozart and Tijuana community-based organization Promotora De Las Bellas Artes have partnered for a bi-national project to raise awareness for ocean conservation and the care and importance of our shared Cali-Baja Coast. Part of this program is a free community concert, “The Sea Unites Us,” May 5 at 5 p.m. at the UC San Diego Epstein Family Amphitheater. The Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra will be joined by members of Tijuana’s Promotora de las Bellas Artes Children’s Choir, the San Diego Children’s Choir, and the SDSU Chamber Choir, as well as musicians and singers from the Baja California and Los Angeles regions performing works highlighting the importance of the shared Cali-Baja coast. Led by Maestro Hernan Constantino, the concert will feature new music from renowned Mexico City singer, conductor and composer Jorge Cózatl whose piece was inspired by research provided by the Walter Munk Foundation for the Oceans (WMFO) as well as the environmental learning and experiences of the students of Promotora de las Bellas Artes choir. The biggest event in classical music returns to San Diego, June 20-29. The Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra Festival, led by Maestro Michael Francis, is the largest gathering of concertmasters and principal players from the nation’s top orchestras, who come together in San Diego every summer to form one remarkable orchestra for a limited six-concert series. This year, the orchestra will return to two La Jolla venues where it first held performances in 2023: the UC San Diego Epstein Family Amphitheater and The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. Jefferson Parker, Jim Kempton Join the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library on Sunday, October 13, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for an “Authors, Wine & Hors d ‘Oeuvres” event featuring local Edgar Award winning author T. Jefferson Parker, and California Surf Museum Director, Jim Kempton. All proceeds benefit the Oceanside Public Library. In addition to sipping wine and sampling hors d ’Oeuvres, there will be the opportunity to bid on a variety of silent auction items including a two-day stay at an Airbnb in Oceanside, museum memberships, paintings by local artists and much more.
