Painting using imagery in our art making is such a fun way to tell a visual story. We use photocopies as the underlying image and build from there. This is a way of creating expressive and fun art that can stand up to any other form of art. In this workshop, learn how to paint over a photocopy and how to properly adhere paper seamlessly to a substrate—without bubbles or creases. Students will walk away with a small painting and an understanding of this fun process—not to mention, these make great Mother's Day gifts! Jefferson Parker, Jim Kempton Join the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library on Sunday, October 13, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for an “Authors, Wine & Hors d ‘Oeuvres” event featuring local Edgar Award winning author T. Jefferson Parker, and California Surf Museum Director, Jim Kempton. All proceeds benefit the Oceanside Public Library. In addition to sipping wine and sampling hors d ’Oeuvres, there will be the opportunity to bid on a variety of silent auction items including a two-day stay at an Airbnb in Oceanside, museum memberships, paintings by local artists and much more. CJ Di Mento, Oceanside Library Director, will moderate a forum featuring the two authors after which there will be a question and answer period and an opportunity to have the author’s books signed. The celebrated pipa performer Wu Man joins the orchestra for a world premiere by UCSD faculty member Lei Liang. In the second half, the past is unraveled, from the complexity of Arnold Schoenberg’s twelve-tone music to the lush voice of his brother-in-law, Alexander Zemlinsky, and finally culminating in the rarely-heard original version of Schumann’s Symphony no. 4, a masterpiece of the Romantic era.
