From the KPBS Spring Arts Guide: Playwright James Ijames won a Pulitzer Prize for drama for his spin on Shakespeare's "Hamlet," which brings us Juicy, a queer, smart, Black college student faced with the ghost of his father who shows up at a family barbecue looking for revenge. But these generational woes don't quite play out like Hamlet himself might have expected. Ijames' take is about finding agency and stepping out of the cycles of trauma and violence. San Diego Poetry Annual and San Diego Public Library present the 8th annual Steve Kowit Poetry Award, given to deserving poets anywhere in honor of celebrated local poet Steve Kowit, a former teacher at San Diego State University and Southwestern College. Kowit honorees' poems are published in a special section of the San Diego Poetry Annual each year. Cash awards are provided by the San Diego Entertainment and Arts Guild. Create a tile design in glass as well as a picture frame to showcase it in! Or choose to keep the tile separate and design the frame for a favorite personal photo. You’ll learn all about the properties of glass fusion, glass-cutting techniques, how to use a glass grinder, and the proper adhesion techniques to create stunning works of art. In this workshop, each student will receive instructional videos beforehand so you can begin planning. All glass materials and one frame (4×6 or 5×7 opening) are provided. Your pieces will be fired in a glass kiln to completely fuse each design into one solid piece, and will be ready for you to pick up the following week. Workshop fee includes pre-workshop instructional videos, all glass, equipment, and kiln firing. An additional supply fee of $10 (cash only) is due to instructor at the workshop.
