  • Join us for a fun workshop with GOLDEN Artist Educator, Lisa Bebi where we will create a unique painting of our moms for Mother's Day! Painting using imagery in our art making is such a fun way to tell a visual story. We use photocopies as the underlying image and build from there. This is a way of creating expressive and fun art that can stand up to any other form of art. In this workshop, learn how to paint over a photocopy and how to properly adhere paper seamlessly to a substrate—without bubbles or creases. Students will walk away with a small painting and an understanding of this fun process—not to mention, these make great Mother's Day gifts! Please visit here for additional information about the event. Stay Connected on Social Media! Facebook & Instagram

  • From the KPBS/Arts newsletter: Maybe I've been working in local arts for too long, but if you gave me two seconds to name whatever jazz trumpeters first came to mind, I'd say Miles Davis and Gilbert Castellanos, our own local icon. If you're anything like that, then this concert is made for you. Castellanos will perform at the Rady Shell with his band to celebrate Davis' "Kind of Blue," which was released 65 years ago to the date of this concert. 7:30 p.m., Aug. 17. $18-$70. —Julia Dixon Evans, KPBS From the organizers: Join Gilbert Castellanos and friends as they celebrate Miles Davis and his all-star band at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. One of the greatest albums of all time and the best-selling jazz album ever, Miles Davis' masterpiece "Kind of Blue" is as relevant and revered today as when it was recorded in 1959. Talented student musicians of the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory perform a pre-concert set.
