Tuesdays from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Welcome ages 6-12. Instructor Lydia Kardos teaches this introductory ceramic hand-building course. Students will create functional and nonfunctional ceramic art. Learn how to create with coils, slab construction and clay pinching methods. See the beauty of the final results as your pieces come out of the kiln. Students will create multiple pieces and learn how to glaze finished artwork. All materials included. Different projects every month. The irreverent "Sorry Comrade" is a delightful, complex feature debut from Vera Brückner. The film is a documentary portrait of Karl-Heinz and Hedi, two lovers in the divided Germany of the 1970s, kept apart by the Iron Curtain. A plan for Hedi’s escape from East Germany is hatched, and we soon find ourselves in thriller territory as their plan begins to unfold. Brückner’s canny film moves quickly and cinematically, using first-person testimony, excerpts from private correspondence, and a rich trove of archival footage. Yet Sorry Comrade plays fast and loose with documentary conventions, deploying a wealth of aesthetic strategies, including some vibrant sets and reenactments that make no apology for their deliberate artifice. Abetted by a memorably jazzy score and a keen sense of humor, this confident, energetic film makes for a deeply satisfying experience that is both profound and delivered with a lightness of touch. Each class will be taking us behind the scenes of classic arcade games we know and love. The freshman production will features ride through Mario Kart. Sophomores will have us on our feet with Dance Dance Revolution. Juniors will journey inside “The Claw” machine. And Seniors will tell us the story of the beloved Pac-Man! Folk singer and composer, Peter Mayer, will be performing at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Dieguito on January 21, 2023 at 7:00pm. Performing in venues across the U.S, and beyond, he has been working full-time for over 20 years. He writes songs for a small planet to celebrate life on earth and the mysterious and wondrous fact of our existence. He also writes whimsical songs about dress hats, pumpkins, pajamas, love and freight trains. His music has been widely performed by other artists as well.
