This week of Summer Camp is all about crafts, crafts & more crafts! If you know a teen who loves making & learning new crafts, this camp is for them! We’ll cover a variety of traditional and modern craft mediums, incorporating creative exploration, fine motor skill practice, skill-building, and of course, FUN! We’ll keep things interesting, enjoyable and engaging by meeting each crafter where they’re at. Students will make a variety of fun projects to take home. Teens will explore fiber arts, ceramics, fused glass, woodworking, and more from professional craft artists. OPTIONAL | Lunch Hour Supervision If there is a camp ending as ours begins and you need your child or teen transferred, let us know! If you’d like your child or teen to stay during the lunch hour, there’s a $25 fee for the week to cover the lunchtime gap. They can bring a lunch and have lunch with us with the option to craft after lunch, or head out to grab a lunch and head back to the studio to eat in a safe, welcoming space. Carmen Cuenca (Mexico City,1958) is Executive Director of INSITE Proyectos de Arte AC, the non-profit established to facilitate the development of INSITE in Mexico. She has played key roles with INSITE since 1993—from overseeing the production and permitting of artists projects to promoting and maintaining binational institutional collaborations to directing administration and fundraising efforts. In addition to her involvement with INSITE over the past twenty-seven years, Cuenca was Director of the Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City (2011-2014); Subdirector for Visual Arts at the Centro Cultural Tijuana (2006-2009) where she oversaw the construction of EL CUBO, the city’s first traditional museum space; and Executive Director of the Mexican Cultural Institute at the Mexican Consulate in San Diego. Cuenca studied Art History at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. Andrea Torreblanca (Mexico City, 1979) has a master’s in curatorial studies from CCS, Bard College, New York. Torreblanca has held several curatorial positions in Mexican institutions, including Associate Curator at the Museo Tamayo; Coordinator at Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros; Deputy Director for the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art; and Collection Manager at the Museo de las Californias at CECUT. She is currently the Director of Curatorial Projects at INSITE, for which she conceived Commonplaces, a curatorial platform being developed in different regions around the world, including Baja California (MX)-San Diego (US), where she is the editor-curator of the five-year project The Sedimentary Effect. The 44th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off Festival offers attendees eclectic fun in the sun for all ages. Tens of thousands of visitors will attend the event from 10 am to 8 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2024, for a tasty festival nosh, art, beachfront entertainment, shopping, and more. Entry to the Street Fair is always free! The Chili Competition featured tastings from amateur entrants competing for the titles of Hottest Chili, Judges' Award, and Grand Prize: People's Choice Award. Chili Cook-Off - 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - The Chili Cook-Off competition is held in the grassy area between Newport Avenue and the Pacific. Competitors will show off their chili cooking chops by competing for great prizes... not to mention the satisfaction of winning! Is eating (rather than cooking) delicious chili more your speed? Put your tastebuds to the test and cast a vote alongside the judges! Chili tasting begins at 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Two Stages Of Continuous Music - There will be two stages of nonstop music throughout the day at the Annual OB Street Fair. Music genres will include acoustic, rock, blues, alternative, Americana, and more. The audiences will be entertained by musicians from everywhere - including right here in our own backyard. Beachside Beer Garden & Hodad's Burger Eating Contest: The Beachside Beer Garden will be rockin' all day for guests 21+ looking to enjoy an ice cold brew with an ocean view. It will be right next to the main stage with live music from 11 am to 8 pm. Also, we'll have the Hodad's Burger Eating contest, and the Chili Cook-Off winners announcement. Both beer and mixed drinks will be available. OB Dirty Birds Wing Eating Contest: Love chicken wings and keeping Ocean Beach clean, beautiful, and fun? Great, it's a win-win. Sign up for the Annual Street Fair's Dirty Birds Wing Eating contest and the proceeds support OBMA's Friends of OB Clean & Safe Program. The contest is held on the MainStage on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. FREE Trolley & Bike Valet: Ride to the festival for free! The Library's Autumn Concert Series takes place on Fridays from September 6 to October 25. Each concert will begin at 1 p.m. in the Winn Room. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance. Our first performance of the series features the Camarada Tango Quartet, live before their second tour in Argentina. The mission of CAMARADA is to elevate and enrich the San Diego community and beyond by presenting phenomenal chamber music concerts, while engaging diverse audiences through visionary and educational programming, featuring living composers, commissioning new music, and igniting a powerful connection between the audience, artists and music. Camarada is dedicated to presenting invigorating performances of musical masterworks. Established in 1994, Camarada shares the joy of chamber music by pairing performers of the highest caliber with intimate spaces throughout San Diego. Original founders Beth Ross Buckley, Ann Chase, and Mary Barranger had a vision of concert experiences that are inviting and engaging for audiences. In 2008 Dana Burnett joined Beth Ross Buckley as Co-Artistic Director continuing this tradition.
