  • Through this eight-session workshop series, explore artworks currently on display from MCASD’s collection under the themes of personal history, identity and storytelling. Reflections was designed to serve adults 55 and older. The conversations around the artworks in MCASD’s collection will offer stimulating input and prompts for participants as they think about creating their own artworks. The hands-on workshop will provide a forum for self-expression and developing new interpersonal connections. Refreshments and time for social interaction will take place in Museum venues that take full advantage of the beautiful oceanside location and views. Transportation will be provided, if required. This session runs every Friday from May 12 – June 30.

Xanadu is the rare musical with a big heart, an even bigger funny bone, and a tongue stuck firmly in its cheek. Xanadu, a splashy musical comedy on wheels, has a book by Douglas Carter Beane and music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar. It is based on the 1980 film of the same name. The film’s soundtrack was a commercial hit. The musical’s score retains the hits from the film and also includes new arrangements by Eric Stern of “I’m Alive”, “Magic”, “Suddenly”, and “Dancin'”, as well as integrating two classic Electric Light Orchestra songs, “Strange Magic” and “Evil Woman”, plus Farrar’s hit “Have You Never Been Mellow”.   • Local nonprofit, Miracle Babies is celebrating the holidays early this year with their 4th annual Christmas in July toy drive to serve families with hospitalized infants. July 12- 19, Miracle Babies will transform their headquarters into Santa’s Workshop. The event will be held by appointment only. Families can visit “Santa’s Workshop,” choose three NEW donated toys to wrap and gift it to siblings of the baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Miracle Babies is working with hospitals and social workers to identify families in need and schedule shopping appointments to help minimize contact and provide an exclusive shopping experience. Collection sites include: all San Diego County Geppetto’s Toys Stores, Dalton Subaru, Dalton Toyota, and Miracle Babies Kearny Mesa office. Miracle Babies welcomes new toys for infants to age 16. Community members can drop off or ship directly to Miracle Babies now through July 12.
