  • “Painting As” is an exhibition of new artworks by Matt Rich. Expanding the traditional definition of painting, these works include a looser, fluid exchange between the categorical elements of painted marks-on-surface-on-support. Each installation configures the painted canvas in space: mounting it directly to the wall; suspending or pulling it out off the wall; or allowing it to flop onto the floor. The ampersand ("&") is a frequent motif, self-referencing the additive process of building the paintings, as well as positing "and" (instead of "or") as a guiding ethos of acceptance and connection. This is an all ages event About the Performers: Goldie All vinyl DJ and founder of Goldies Record Co., an independent record store supplying new and vintage vinyl + art in Oceanside, CA. Myles Ortiz-Green Los Angeles native Myles Ortiz-Green is a multidisciplinary artist, pianist and composer and explores the ideas of interconnectedness, digital identity, decadence, and the “in-between” in their work. As a pianist with a background in classical and jazz studies, they combine analogue and digital electronics and improvisation to manipulate samples and field recordings. Joy Guidry Radical self-love, compassion, laughter, and the drive to amplify Black artmakers and noisemakers comprise the core of bassoonist and composer Joy Guidry’s work. Their performances have been hailed by The San Diego Union Tribune as “lyrical and haunting...hair-raising and unsettling.” Joy was born in Houston, Texas, into a creative family that played a big part in who they’ve become today. A versatile improviser and a composer of experimental, daring new works that embody a deep love of storytelling. Niecy Blues South Carolina singer and producer Niecy Blues describes their songwriting process like an undertow: “I feel a strange pull, and let it carry me, following swirling leaves… whole days roll by, forgetting about the body.” Her full-length debut, Exit Simulation, captures this sense of deep-rooted divination, cycling between simmering ballads, ghosted R&B, downtempo gospel, and looped vocal improvisations – often within the same track.
