By the end of the session, you’ll be able to craft, cook, and enjoy your own delicious dumplings, from steaming and frying to boiling, with confidence and creativity. On Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024 mycophiles, educators, chefs, supportive businesses and dedicated mushroom amateurs, enthusiasts and professionals will gather at our Annual Fungus Fair in San Diego’s Balboa Park, continuing our mission to help educate our community, exchanging knowledge and celebrating all things fungi. The San Diego Mycological Society was established in 1997 and our group gathers for the many facets of fungi such as culinary, cultivation, identification, photography and art, ecology and more. We have monthly seminars, conduct classes, lead forays to find mushrooms, assist in mushroom identification, and share joy in commensality at member potlucks and chef prepared full course mushroom dinners. About JP Balmat Jean-Paul (JP) Balmat is the award-winning educator and performer leading the internationally recognized music program at Mission Bay. His award-winning groups have been invited to perform throughout California, New Orleans and most recently Japan. Jean-Paul is an accomplished educator, performer, composer and arranger. As a professional saxophonist, he performs regularly in San Diego. He is artistic director of the Euphoria Brass Band and his recordings and compositions have been nominated for San Diego Music Awards the past six years. In 2019 and 2020 Euphoria Brass Band won the San Diego Music Award for “Best Jazz.” Most recently he has performed with New Orleans trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, drummer Marvin “Smitty” Smith (Tonight Show Band) and GRAMMY award winning and nominated musicians Oscar Hernandez, Francisco Torres (Poncho Sanchez, Gordon Goodwin) and Javier Cabanillas (Pacific Mambo Orchestra, Cabanijazz Project). About Gypsy Sally Based out of sunny San Diego, Gypsy Sally is a three piece blues band that brings the old school feel to the new age from blues, to rock with the occasional Bossa and Latin twist. Front man Kyler Jakubowski has utilized his North Carolina roots and over the years has created a very unique blues sound not heard since the 50’s, Austin Wagner links the rhythm and melody with his smooth motown influenced James Jameson style, and Martin Quezada holds the beat on drums with his Caribbean swing, all of which when brought together creates what is now known as the one and only Gypsy Sally. To date, Gypsy Sally has recorded one album, "How Long," recorded live in the studio with Alan Sanderson. Gypsy Sally is named after a bar in the song "Tecumseh Valley" by Townes Van Zandt. Apart from Van Zandt, the band is influenced by classic blues artists like B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, and Peter Green. However, in addition to the blues, the band also draws influence from the vocals of Sam Cooke, and the rock guitar of Rory Gallagher. About Jonesy Jones Jonesy Jones is an internationally touring entertainer who indulges in her craft to provide a phenomenal experience for the audience. For over 10 years, she has been a vocalist, trombonist, bongocera artist, tap dancer, radio voice over artist, model, and the lead vocalist for the Crowned Jewelz Band. Her high flying energy on stage can be felt throughout the entire performance, and her soulful rhythm and melodies are sure to lull any audience into a feel good vibe. Jonesy Jones has been involved in dance since the age of 10. Yolanda began teaching beginner Tap dance and Hip-Hop dance under Lynn Brown at Prima Dance Studios at the age of 16. She also taught modern hip-hop and Tap Dance at Midtown Dance Studios and Mobile Contemporary Dance Studios.
