  • Culinary Historians of San Diego will present “The Story of Spoons,” and Ken Albala, at 10:30 am June 15, in the Neil Morgan Auditorium at the San Diego Central Library, 330 Park Blvd. The Story of Spoons recounts the journey of food historian Ken Albala into the world of slojd carving, an entirely new area of food history and practical hands-on research. How and why both historic and contemporary spoons elide physically and aesthetically with pottery and recipes he also makes is the subject of his next book project Wooden Spoons, Clay Pots and Recipes from Scratch. Ken Albala is Tully Knoles Endowed Professor of History at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. He was the 2023 Distinguished Faculty Award recipient for the University and won the 2024 Hoefer award for Faculty-Student Collaboration for an article on the history of lasagna. His next book which will be out this fall is entitled Opulent Nosh: A Cookbook for Audacious Appetites.
