  • From the museum: ICA San Diego is thrilled to announce our inaugural monthly C You Saturday! events. Beginning this March, on the third Saturday of every month, a brand-new event series will bring together cutting-edge contemporary art exhibitions, performances, family-friendly activities, artist conversations, music, and more, to celebrate contemporary art with the San Diego County creative community. In celebration of our new exhibitions, Edra Soto: Graft and Narsiso Martínez: Rethinking Essential, we invite our community to gather and grow; chill out or be challenged in a space for enjoyment, exchange, and open dialogue. ICA San Diego is excited to be working with Art of Elan on a season of programming that is based on ICA’s Artist-in-Residence program. Each Artist-in-Residence will work closely with the musicians of Art of Elan to develop experiences that are motivated by themes in the artists’ work. Are you an ICA Member? Art of Elan’s performance takes us on a journey: from the timeless music of J. S. Bach that can be found in almost every corner of the world to the vibrant sounds of composers Marco Granados, Gabriela Lena Frank, and Angelica Negrón, whose compositions all explore the intricacies of cross-cultural identities. This immersive, multisensory, and dynamic experience provides a unique perspective of how diasporic communities shape identities in new places. 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm | Conversation with Artist-in-Residence Edra Soto 5:30 pm | Q&A Edra Soto talks with Associate Curator, Guusje Sanders, about her exhibition, Graft. In this ongoing sculptural project, Soto examines the role of architecture in the construction of Puerto Rican national identity, and how the transplantation of familiar architecture abroad can reflect the experience of Puerto Rican immigrants as they navigate the diaspora. A short Q&A session will follow. 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm | Tour of Narsiso Martínez: Rethinking Essential *Space limited Artist Narsiso Martínez and Executive Director, Andrew Utt, take us through the gallery to get an inside look at Martinez’s exhibition Rethinking Essential. 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm | After Party!
