Like fermentation, complex essays emerge through layering and time. In this class, you’ll practice tracing research paths and integrating outside sources into your personal narrative essay. We’ll focus on enlivening writing through research by helping you craft essays that are both intellectually grounded and supported by lyricism and story.
Through close readings of researched personal essays, we’ll look at how writers braid research it into their own narratives. The session will include discussion, brief writing and research exercises, and generative prompts to support writers as you begin this process.
