“THE SHINING” (1980. 144 minutes. R) - Stanley Kubrick meets Stephen King in this eerie metaphysical maze. Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson ), an aspiring writer, his wife (Shelley Duvall ) and son Danny (Danny Lloyd ) become caretakers of the remote Overlook Hotel. Triggered by Danny’s psychic premonitions, the hotel releases spirit forces that begin to unravel Jack.

Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall star in director Stanley Kubrick's disturbing adaptation of Stephen King's blockbuster horror novel. When writer Jack Torrance (Nicholson)--who has a history of alcoholism and child abuse--takes a job as winter caretaker for a hotel high in the Rocky Mountains, he, his wife (Duvall) and their psychic young son will be isolated until spring. But once the first blizzard closes the road out, the accumulated power of evil deeds committed at the hotel begins to drive Jack mad. Now there may be no escape for his wife and son in this haunting madness, memory and family violence.

Cinema Under the Stars is an intimate outdoor movie theater in Mission Hills, directly behind Tops Salon. The theater features a 20-foot screen with HD projection and THX surround sound. Open air seating includes your choice of single & double zero-gravity recliners, love seat cabanas, or deck chairs with ottomans. For additional comfort, there are pillows, blankets and heaters and a waterproof canvas cover installed for the Winter months, in case of rain. Concessions: Popcorn, candy and assorted hot or cold beverages are $2 each. There are also several restaurants within walking distance in the neighborhood for dinner before the movie. Enjoy classic films, cult favorites and recent releases on the weekends, year round. There will be a brief introduction and a classic cartoon prior to the film.
