"The Fairy Tale Monologues" strips back the "Grimm's Fairy Tales" to the real women behind the stories in this original new feminist musical by three time award winning playwright and composer Sarah Alida LeClair. Winner of the Most Outstanding Premiere at the World Congress and San Diego International Fringe Festival 2026, "The Fairy Tale Monologues" combines the stories of a queer princess looking for a way out, a vigilante prince unsure what his life should look like, a witch looking for love, a wife seeking her own happiness, a sunflower loving baker on a quest, and a curious child with lush, romantic original music and quirky humor overlaying a raw, emotional journey.
Riot Productions Inc is a critically acclaimed award winning intersectional feminist theatre company with a mission to make art accessible to marginalized and historically underserved communities south of the 8 freeway in San Diego, and to that end provides education, outreach, and complimentary tickets to those communities as well as ensuring that our venues are always accessible by public transportation.
Moxie Theatre
MOXIE Theatre is a professional non-profit theatre founded by the critically acclaimed group of performers and directors: Jo Anne Glover, Liv Kellgren, Delicia Turner Sonnenberg and Jennifer Eve Thorn in 2005. MOXIE’s mission is to create more diverse and honest images of women for our culture using the art of theatre. Through the production of primarily female playwrights and the special attention given to plays that defy female stereotypes, MOXIE expands the idea of what is feminine. Our dedication to finding work that is underproduced means we’re discovering the classics of the future. MOXIE fans know that each distinct MOXIE production will always share one similar quality – moxie. Moxie is defined as “courage, pluck, gumption, perseverance, guts.” It may be the hero of a play who embodies the term moxie, or a challenging subject matter. Perhaps a playwright has invented an original world for audiences to explore, or actors are asked to stretch to new heights and break new ground in story-telling. In whatever way it is revealed, moxie is the unifying quality that defines all of our productions. MOXIE is located in the Aztec Shopping Center on El Cajon Blvd near San Diego State University off the 8 freeway in the Rolando neighborhood. We recommend exiting the 8 freeway at 70th street and continuing south on 70th street, turn right no El Cajon Blvd (heading west.) MOXIE is located on the south side of the street. Please note that you can not turn left into our parking lot when heading west on El Cajon Blvd. It’s necessary to make a u-turn in order to turn right into the Aztec Shopping Center. We’re located in the back corner of the center. Look for our marquee over the door.
