Carla Ribas stars in Alice's House (FiGa Films)
The San Diego Latino Film Festival kicks off its 15th year tonight, but just in case you can't get enough Latino cinema at the festival,Landmark Theaters is opening a new Brazilian film called Alice's House (opening March 7 at Landmark's Ken Cinema ). Listen to my radio review or read the transcript. It's the start of a typical day for Alice. She and the five other members of her family live in a cramped, working class apartment in Sao Paulo. Grandma's already up preparing breakfast and doing the laundry. Hubby Lindomar is still fast asleep, while her three teenage sons struggle to wake for school. As the chatter of the talk radio show plays, the family goes about its morning routine.
