Chula Vista is looking for a new police chief. The man who currently holds the position has decided to step down after 17 years in the job. KPBS reporter Katie Orr has details.
The nationwide search for a new police chief started just a few days ago, but City Manager Jim Sandoval says there’s already been a lot of interest in the job. He says the city’s looking for someone who shares a lot of the qualities current Chief Rick Emerson has.
“Someone who is aware of these types of border issues that we might deal with. An individual that has really good connections and good relationships with other law enforcement agencies,” he says.
Sandoval says the Police Chief will officially retire at the end of May. But he’ll stay on the job until his replacement is hired. The position pays between $156,000 and $192,000 a year. Sandoval says he hopes to have someone hired by the end of the summer.
