Pool Safety Tips: Report Finds Most Child Drownings Occur In Backyard Pools

Summer is in full swing in San Diego County and many families spend their weekends gathering around barbecues and swimming pools. But a new report finds most child drownings occur in a family's own backyard. That puts children under 5 years old at a higher risk.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission found that children younger than 5 years old account for 75 percent of all pool and spa submersion deaths. We take a look at pool safety in San Diego County and what steps parents can take.
