Camp Pendleton Marine Who Lost Eye Earns Bronze Star

Editor's Note: The original post contained information about Cpl. Kyle Carpenter, not Cpl. Kyle Thompson. I apologize for the error.

Cpl. Kyle Thompson, a former Camp Pendleton Marine who lost an eye in an IED explosion, has earned the Bronze Star for heroic actions in Afghanistan. The Associated Press reports Sgt. Thompson received the award last week for two separate incidents in Helmand province where he performed bravely when ambushed by the enemy. Thompson's grandfather, Tom Teela, told the Associated Press:

Thompson was part of Camp Pendleton's 1st Reconnaissance Battalion before the IED explosion that took his eye also ended his military career.
