Dover Mortuary Supervisor Resigns Amid Scandal

A Dover Port Mortuary supervisor - perhaps most infamous for ordering the arm of a fallen Marine be sawed off so it could fit into his uniform - has quit. Quinton 'Randy' Keel resigned today, according to the Washington Post. The Post reports Keel was "at the heart" of the scandal triggered by the mortuary's mishandling of fallen service member's remains.

As Home Post reported earlier, the Dover Air Force Base mortuary dumped the ashes of 274 fallen American troops into a Virginia landfill between 2004 and 2008. And the Pentagon admitted this week the mortuary also dumped the incinerated remains of 9/11 victims to a landfill.

Whistleblowers working at the mortuary had come forward to supervisors to bring to light the disturbing treatment of fallen service members remains. According to the Washington Post, investigators at the Office of Special Counsel discovered Keel attempted to two of the three whistleblowers.

The Air Force demoted Keel but did not fire him.
