Marine Sgt. Andrew K. Thompson was awarded the Silver Star this week at a Camp Pendleton ceremony. Thompson is a critical skills operator with the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion at Camp Pendleton.
Thompson earned his Silver Star for his actions during combat in Afghanistan, when he served as an element leader with the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, according to DVIDS News.
Also this week, Staff Sgt. Maurice Scott received the Bronze Star for his actions during combat in the months of September and October 2010, according to DVIDS News.
Scott, 33, is also a critical skills operator with 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion at Camp Pendleton. He is actually a one-time Army Ranger. In a military career that began at age 18, Scott has been deployed twice to Iraq and three times to Afghanistan.
