Suspect in Beating Death of Camp Pendleton Marine in Court Today

The Camp Pendleton Marine accused of beating to death Lance Cpl. Mario Arias is in court today for an Article 32 hearing. Camp Pendleton Patch reports Lance Cpl. Darren J. Evans, 19, is facing charges of murder, assault, and violation of a lawful order.

Today is Evans' very first court appearance, and the Marine Corps has kept his identity private until now.

Arias, 19, was found beaten to death in his Camp Pendleton barracks on November 6, 2011. The North County Times reported at the time the believed cause for the crime:
