Former kickboxing pro Lee Aldhouse of England told a judge in Thailand this week that while he did stab Marine veteran Dashawn Longfellow to death, it was an accident.
Thai authorities have charged Aldhouse with the premeditated murder of Longfellow on August 14, 2010 in Phuket.
According to the Associated Press, the stabbing took place after a bar brawl between Aldhouse and Longfellow:
Aldhouse told the court that after the brawl he bought a knife at a convenience store to protect himself. He said he was looking for his lost dog later that night when he was grabbed from behind by Longfellow, whom he stabbed as he flailed behind him.
The Telegraph reports Longfellow was a combat veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He had been a machine gunner for the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment at Twentynine Palms in California, according to CBS News.
Aldhouse is the first British citizen to be extradited to Thailand in more than a century, reports the Telegraph.
If Aldhouse is found guilty of murder, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
