Court Rules It's Illegal For US Military To Make Sex Tapes

This one probably doesn't come as much of a shocker: The Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces ruled May 23 that it's illegal for anyone in the U.S. military to make a sex tape.

The Army Times reports the ruling stems from the case of Army Staff Sgt. Ivan Goings, who was convicted in 2008 of violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice after a search of his home in Germany produced a homemade sex tape.

Service members making sex tapes is tantamount to having sex in public, the court ruled, which is a violation of Clause 1 of Article 134 of the UCMJ:

Clause 1 offenses involve disorders and neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces.

Judge Margaret Ryan wrote for the court’s majority, according to the Army Times:

“We do not doubt that permitting the filming of those same acts is... sufficient” to violate Article 134.
