Family Cat Killed By Military Artillery, Government Sued (Video)

The family pet of Frederick and Cheryl Angle died in a most unusual way. Sarah the cat was sitting on a bed in the Angle family's New Jersey home when she was hit by a stray piece of military artillery that crashed through the roof.

Now the Angles are suing the government for their loss.

The New Jersey Herald reports a federal judge is hearing arguments today over whether the lawsuit can go forward. The Angles are seeking "unspecified compensatory damages" over the psychological harm that they say the falling projectile caused the family.

According to the Associated Press, the two-pound piece of shrapnel that killed Sarah the cat came from nearby Picatinny Arsenal during weapons training.

The incident occurred in April of 2008. CBS News covered the bizarre story then, and I've posted that video up top.
