The Army has identified the woman who shot and killed herself at Fort Lee Army base on Monday as Sgt. 1st Class Paula M. Walker, 33, of Yonkers, N.Y. Walker had an eight-year-old daughter she was raising as a single mother.

Governor Jerry Brown ordered flags above the State Capitol to be lowered to half-staff in honor of fallen California soldier Sgt. Christopher W. Mulalley, 26, of Eureka. Mulalley died Aug. 22 in Afghanistan.

An F-15C fighter jet crashed Wednesday morning in western Virginia. The jet was assigned to an Air National Guard base in Massachusetts. The condition of the pilot is not known at this time.

An inflatable boat dispatched by the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Monomoy fired a warning shot at an Iranian dhow (fishing boat), after a member of the dhow's crew aimed a machine gun at the American boat "with hostile intent."
