Governor Jerry Brown ordered flags above the State Capitol to be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday in honor of fallen California soldier Sgt. Christopher W. Mulalley, 26, of Eureka.
Brown also released a statement that read, in part:
On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Sgt. Christopher W. Mulalley, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation.
The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
As Home Post previously reported, the Army is investigating the circumstances surrounding Mulalley's death.
He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas since July 2013, according to the Army Times. He was deployed to Afghanistan in June.
Mulalley leaves behind a wife and two young sons.
