A sailor assigned to a West Coast-based Naval Special Warfare Command was killed in a skydiving accident on Monday. The sailor, who has not yet been identified, died from injuries he suffered during parachute training in the Southern California desert near the city of El Centro.

The Defense Department has identified the three U.S. Marines killed on June 20 (along with a military working dog) by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan. They were: Staff Sgt. David H. Stewart, 34; Lance Cpl. Brandon J. Garabrant, 19; and Lance Cpl. Adam F. Wolff, 25. All three were based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Retired U.S Marine Corps Cpl. William “Kyle” Carpenter will be honored Monday at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Carpenter threw himself in front of an enemy grenade to shield a fellow Marine from the blast.

Active-duty soldier Pfc. Paul Ieti, 21, recently completed a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. While in the war-ravaged country, he used music to soothe his soul and entertain his fellow soldiers. His incredible singing voice landed him an audition on "America's Got Talent," and his performance on the show this week earned him a standing ovation and a spot in the final competition.
