A sailor assigned to a West Coast-based Naval Special Warfare Command was killed in a skydiving accident on Monday, according to The Associated Press.
The sailor, who has not yet been identified, died in El Centro from injuries he suffered during parachute training in the Southern California desert.
Naval Special Warfare Group One, based at Coronado, announced the death.
Deputy Public Affairs Officer Chief Brandon Raile told CNN an investigation is underway into the fatal accident, which occurred during routine training.
