Pentagon Ready to Call Guard for Second Iraq Tour

The Pentagon is ready to notify National Guard brigades to prepare again for duty in Iraq. Some 12,000 troops are scheduled to be deployed to Iraq early next year.

This would be the first time that full Guard combat brigades have been sent to Iraq for a second tour. The deployments are necessary because the regular Army is not large enough to handle the mission in Iraq on its own.
