FEMA Response to Wildfires Helps Restore Image

The Federal Emergency Management Agency gets generally good marks from residents of southern California in the aftermath of recent wildfires. Even before the flames were out in San Diego County, FEMA public information officers were everywhere — handing out cards with the agency's 800 telephone number and encouraging victims to call.

After a bungled and widely criticized response to Hurricane Katrina, FEMA is pulling out all stops to it can do a good job in the face of a natural disaster.
