San Diego-based Illumina announced Thursday the filing of a pair of patent infringement lawsuits in Europe over the alleged unauthorized use of its technology.

The maker of DNA sequencing equipment sued The Doctors Laboratory Ltd., TDL Genetics Ltd., and Ariosa Diagnostics in the High Court of Justice, Chancery Division, which handles patent disputes in the United Kingdom.

The other lawsuit was filed in a regional court in Warsaw, Poland, against Centrum Badan and Medgenetix.

The firms are accused of improperly using Illumina technology for non-invasive prenatal testing, which uses blood tests from the mother to determine whether a pregnancy has certain chromosomal conditions.

In a statement, Illumina said it's seeking all available remedies, including damages and injunctive relief.

The new lawsuits follow similar court actions previously filed against San Jose-based Ariosa in the U.S. and Manchester-based Premaitha Health in the United Kingdom.
