Learn to make your own Candles! August 29, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Whether you’re brand new to candle-making or ready to take your skills up a notch, this 2-hour class will walk you through the process of creating your own candles from start to finish. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn: - The basics of working with soy wax - The difference between fragrance oils & essential oils - How to properly melt, pour, and set your candles - Wick selection and placement for a clean, even burn - How to add fragrance safely - Troubleshooting common candle-making mistakes so your candles turn out just right By the end of class, you’ll head home with 2 handcrafted candles (7-ounce & 8.5-ounce), the knowledge to keep creating on your own, and practical tips to help during your candle-making journey. If you’re interested in bringing your own candle vessel to use, please feel free to bring heat-resistant, non-flammable, and non-porous containers (examples: annealed glass, glazed ceramic, metal tins). If the vessels you bring aren’t safe for candle use, the instructor will let you know. In that case, you’re welcome to use the class‑provided vessels instead. This class is perfect for beginners who want to learn the fundamentals, as well as intermediate makers looking to sharpen their skills. No experience necessary. Learn to needle felt! Sunday, August 23, from 9-11 a.m. Butterflies — those delightful, flying little splashes of color — are the inspiration for today’s class! In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn the basics of needle-felted painting by layering colored wool on the wings of your precut butterfly shape using special needles. Because the needles are quite pointed, this class is open to students aged 12 and up — protective guards will be on hand to keep fingers safe. When you’re done, take it home as a wearable brooch or a charming piece of wall art. No prior experience needed. All are welcome, ages 12 and older. Aloha all! We are happy to announce the annual San Diego Ho’olaule’a Hawaiian Festival this year will be taking place again on Saturday and Sunday, August 22-23, 2026 at NTC Park at Liberty Station. Come out and enjoy a weekend of fun-filled activities, family-friendly vibes, and a celebration of authentic Hawaiian culture through music, art, dance, and most importantly, food! Our fantastic emcee with have audience participation with stage prizes to hand out. Various Hawaiian dance groups will be performing throughout the day. Our Hawaiian cultural village will take you on a journey into Hawaiian history throughout the ages as well as our modern lifestyle and impact on the world. Writing a novel? This intermediate course will examine the eight fundamental elements of the novel. From Concept to Conclusion, we will evaluate your work so far and check the foundation for cracks. Written lessons, curated online resources, and targeted exercises (along with instructor and peer feedback) will help guide you in your novel-writing process.
