The Carlsbad City Library invites children and families to attend a special program recognizing the 2022 Ringing of the Peace Bells. The library program will consist of a storytime about the topics of peace and friendship and a Japanese-themed craft activity, followed by a live on-camera Zoom session with Futtsu, Japan for the bell ringing ceremony. The event, in cooperation with Carlsbad’s Sister City, Futtsu, Japan, will commemorate 77 years of peace since the first use of an atomic bomb in Hiroshima, Japan. Sister Cities International was created at President Eisenhower’s 1956 White House conference on citizen diplomacy. This season’s “Women in Music Festival” focuses on the role women have had on both music composition and performance in our history. The final performance will showcase The Organ Pavilion Rock Band. Featuring some of the best Rock musicians in San Diego, the Organ Pavilion Rock Band has set itself apart by delivering powerful performances of Rock classics with the unique sound provided by the Spreckels Organ. A mix of Rock and Classically-trained artists bring the Rock Classics to a new level. The concert will feature both awarded local lead singers Chloe Lou and Lauren Leigh-Martin with music by the most famous Classic Soul and Rock female singers/bands. An organ professor at UCLA, Rhodes will perform a concert ranging from J. S. Bach to an original world premiere. During her brilliant career, she has toured extensively throughout the major music capitals of North America, Europe and Asia with recital and festival appearances in concert halls and cathedrals including Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, D.C.), Lincoln Center (New York City), Disney Hall (Los Angeles), Royal Festival Hall (London) and Notre Dame (Paris).

The Downtown San Diego Lions Club invites San Diegans to their “ROARing Twenties” Centennial Gala Saturday, September 24 from 5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. The theme-driven bash is a tribute to when the Club was first chartered in 1922. It is the Downtown San Diego Lions Club’s largest fundraiser and promises to be a swinging time. This event will raise critical funds to support their Lions High School Scholarship program as well as Lions Camp Jack summer camp for at-risk San Diego youth.
