We uplift individuals and families with challenging conditions, help them achieve their goals, and support health and wellness throughout the community. Our music therapists are highly-trained professionals, who after graduating with an approved degree in music therapy, complete a 1,200-hour internship and a challenging national board certification test. Music therapists’ education encompasses biology, psychology, and neurology, as well as training in voice, guitar, piano, percussion, and often other instruments to accommodate various evidence-based interventions. We offer our powerful and cost-effective music therapy services through three main programs —Healing Notes, Semper Sound, and Community Connections. Every session begins with an assessment, and then the therapist works with the client to determine which goals to focus on throughout treatment. The award winning Rob Thorsen Quartet will perform a variety of music which includes jazz, latin music, original compositions and more. The band includes bassist Rob Thorsen, pianist Alexander Anderson, vibraphonist Matt DiBiase and drummer Richard Sellers. Together they integrate many different music styles that contribute to their modern jazz sound. From Duke Ellington to Wayne Shorter and Miles Davis, the trio weaves together a unique sound that honors the jazz masters while inspiring a fresh approach to this great American art form. Bassist Rob Thorsen maintains a diverse and busy schedule in Southern California as a performer, educator, clinician and composer. After playing classical guitar, flute, saxophones, tuba and electric bass as a youth, he found his true voice in the upright bass. “When I began playing upright bass, the fact that I felt the sound as much as heard it had a profound effect on me. I was hooked for life.” A San Diego based musician, vibraphonist Matt DiBiase has performed his original music on multiple tours in the U.S. as well as internationally in Europe and the Middle East. California native Alexander Anderson is a forward-thinking pianist, keyboardist, composer, and arranger with a bent toward mixing 70s-influenced jazz and fusion with hip-hop and R&B. Alexander has multiple record releases to his credit and is also a prolific composer and arranger. Richard Sellers has been playing drums with countless groups and ensembles in a variety of styles, including straight-ahead jazz, avant-garde jazz, Brazilian, Latin, funk and hip-hop. Oktoberfest Is Back In Encinitas Sept. 25, 2022 With German Food, Beer, Music And Festivities! The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce announces their 2022 Oktoberfest is back in-person from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022. Now in its 26th year, this free family-oriented event is open to the public and celebrates German roots and culture in the local area. Live entertainment including Bavarian music and dance troupes, German food, international refreshments, two beer gardens and a diverse selection of local artisan products will be featured. A ceremonial parade is slated for noon. More than 15,000 guests are expected to attend. Highlights include a family fun zone, carnival rides, games and a street craft fair with more than 175 local vendors. Food and refreshment tents will serve authentic German beer and food. The "Keepin' It Local Craft Beer Garden" celebrates San Diego's thriving craft beer scene and features local breweries Duck Foot Brewing, Eppig Brewing, Firestone Walker Brewing Company, Hangar 24, and Helia Brewing Co. For the first time, hard kombucha from Local Roots and hard cider from Bivouac Ciderworks will be offered. The Family Tent will exclusively serve beer from sponsor Burgeon Beer Co. Live entertainment, sponsored by Ting Internet, will include Bavarian music from the Bavarian Beer Garden Band. On Friday, October 14, The Elizabeth Hospice will host MOTOWN DOWNTOWN, a special event benefiting the Children’s Bereavement Program from The Elizabeth Hospice. The evening will include a gourmet dinner, wine and a live musical performance by Remembrance 5, a Temptations Tribute group. Motown Downtown will be held at Escondido City Hall, 201 N. Broadway, Escondido, at the fountain, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. There will be a silent and live auction. Everyone in the community (21 years or older) is invited to attend. The cost per person is $175. Caring for our community’s children is key to The Elizabeth Hospice’s mission. One in five children will experience the death of someone significant in their life before they reach the age of 18. Without grief support, children are at higher-than-average risk for problems in school, substance abuse, depression and anxiety. The Elizabeth Hospice’s Children’s Bereavement Program is the only one of its kind in San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County. The program includes school-based grief support groups in 20 school districts, peer-based grief support groups held throughout the school year in Children’s Bereavement Centers in Escondido and Mission Valley, summer grief camp, and community grief education and support. Ancient relics are the remains of great saints, realized beings, masters - from all religions. They are a manifestation of these beings' qualities, such as compassion, lovingkindness. The relics were left behind to inspire people. Lama Lhanang, leader of Jigme Lingpa Center, will be displaying 21+ relics that he has been gifted over the years. They include remains of Shakyamuni Buddha and many realized beings that succeeded him. You can see an incredible short video of that relic here.
