In honor of the late Sam Hinton, we will gather for a day of music in Old Poway Park. Some of our favorite performers will be back on the pavilion. There will be storytellers and music jams. We’ll have shaded seating. The Poway Farmers Market will be happening until 2 p.m. Admission is free. Here is our schedule: • 10 a.m. Special Mystery Guest! • 11 a.m. Trails and Rails. Walt, Paula, and Mike will be playing and singing their collection of classic American folk tunes. • 12 noon Blues and roots musician Nathan James • 1 p.m. Watson, Beldock, and Beach. Paul Beach’s bass anchors David Beldock’s flowing guitar and Peggy Watson’s spectacular voice. They’ve been writing and recording relentlessly through the pandemic. Come hear their new songs. • 2 p.m. Zzymzzy. This gypsy jazz ensemble will make you want to dance. • 3 p.m. Greg Gross and Friends. Greg has had a long involvement with numerous San Diego music institutions, including San Diego Folk Heritage. He moved away last winter, but he’s back for a brief appearance at the Sam Hinton Folk Festival. The San Diego-based Tremble Clefs, led by Music Director Matt Ignacio, announced today that they will stream their virtual benefit concert, Shake, Rattle and Rock The virtual event will feature singers from their three locations, Encinitas, Rancho Bernardo and Allied Gardens. The concert will be live-streamed from Rock and Roll San Diego and will be shown on the Tremble Clefs San Diego website as well as their social media networks. The concert is free for viewers to watch and they will be taking donations on the website. During the concert, guests will have opportunities to donate and can even participate in the silent auction with all proceeds benefiting the non-profit's singing therapy programs directly here in San Diego. Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center will host a virtual Cancer Survivors Day event for cancer survivors, families, friends and the community at large on Wednesday, June 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The informative and inspiring event will focus on living life well. The program will open with welcome remarks by Scripps MD Anderson medical director Thomas Buchholz, M.D., followed by a cancer patient story by author Catherine Datte. Robert Bonakdar, M.D., of Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, will present on using mindfulness meditation to help cope with stress. Participants can take part in a mindfulness and stretch break led by Scripps fitness instructor Amy Callahan, followed by a discussion on nutrition and fitness for wellness, with Scripps registered dietician Alison Meagher and Shiley Fitness Center supervisor Teresa Hodge. Celebrate the Greater San Diego Music Coterie 11th Season with an all Mozart program on June 11 and 12, both at 2pm at St. Bart’s Episcopal Church in Poway. The concert features two winners of the 2022 MTAC Concerto Competition, eleven-year-old Alicia Jiang in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 26 in D major, K. 537 and thirteen-year-old Anthony Kim in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major, K. 216. The Greater San Diego Chamber Orchestra begins the concert with Mozart’s Symphony No. 1, K. 16 and the Greater San Diego Chamber Chorus performs Mozart’s Regina Coeli, K. 108 for the grand finale.
