PARADISE TBD is a chamber opera for five singers and electronics by Clinton McCallum that explores the aftermath of natural disasters, and the ways that memory and trauma shape our collective subconscious. Each of the characters come from a different time and place, and come to discover that they are survivors of cataclysmic events including Hurricane Katrina, the Wuhan flood of 1931, the 1985 earthquake in Mexico City, and the great Bengal famine of 1770. These characters find themselves floating together on a raft in an infinite void, and by telling their harrowing stories they participate in a ritual of community-building and confession. They are guided through the process of remembering by a mysterious figure, who speaks with language beyond human understanding and leads the group to a collective transformation. PARADISE TBD investigates the ways that climate change, poverty, colonialism, and corruption inflict generational trauma on people living on the precarious edges of society. The opera suggests that communal healing can be achieved through the act of storytelling, and seeks to locate the possibility of a more utopian future within the rubble of the past and present. PARADISE TBD is directed by Robert Castro with music direction by Brendan Nguyen. The cast of local singers includes sopranos Mariana Flores Bucio and Anishka Lee-Skorepa, mezzo-soprano Leslie Ann Leytham, baritone Jonathan Nussman, and tenor Miguel Angel Zazueta. Come Run, Walk & Trot on the River! San Diego River Park Foundation is excited to announce the revival of Riverfest, a family-friendly run and activities that celebrate the preservation of the San Diego River and specifically the "Western 9" (the last nine miles of the San Diego River leading to the Pacific Ocean). Riverfest is on May 22, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.! Come out for our 5K Run, Walk, Talk and a 1K Tot Trot hosted by Milestone Running. We encourage you to dress up as your favorite bird and show your support for our feathered friends. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finishers (male/non-binary and female/non-binary) along with other categories. Proceeds go towards supporting and caring for the wildlife, habitat and further research along the San Diego River.

People who are mourning the loss of a loved one can find it challenging to process their emotions. Watching a movie that deals with themes of grief and loss can help them release some of the sadness and hurt. And discussing the movie with others can be a safe way to share their feelings. MOVIE TALK, A Support Group for Grieving Adults, is open to anyone in the community (ages 21+) looking to connect and receive support from others who also face adversity after the death of a loved one. This forum will assist participants in processing the pain of their grief, adjusting to a world without their person, and finding ways to form an enduring connection with their loved ones as they move forward with their lives. Groups will be held on Thursdays, biweekly, from June 30 through August 25, at 12 P.M. to 1 P.M., via Zoom. Drop-ins are welcomed. There is no cost to attend.
