  • HEROES UNITE for the 2022 McKinley Gala! The McKinley Spring Gala is a family-friendly scavenger hunt and online auction. COVID safety inspired us to create a hybrid event with an opportunity for participants to “see” each other safely outdoors in the neighborhood. On Saturday, April 30, we need the students, families, and friends of McKinley to come participate in a special SUPERHERO scavenger hunt. Your very important MISSION is to scour the McKinley universe to find the missing Infinity Stones while helping us raise money for your school’s Art and Wheel programs. The scavenger hunt will take place in the North Park and South Park neighborhoods. You can strike out on a solo mission or form teams of superheroes (up to four adults and unlimited kids)! Note: You will need one smartphone/device per team to participate in the scavenger hunt.   • The San Diego Legion hits the road again to take on the Seattle Seawolves on Saturday, April 16 at 3 p.m. for Round 11 of the Major League Rugby (MLR) 2022 season.   • Hop on over to the Children’s Nature Retreat, a 20-acre animal sanctuary in Alpine, to celebrate Easter with the animals and participate in an Easter Egg Hunt. The annual Egg Hunts are a tradition at the Retreat and this year there will be one hunt per day all week, from Monday, April 11 through Sunday, April 17. The Easter Egg Hunts will begin at noon each day and tickets are $12 per child. 5,000 eggs will be filled with mini plushes, toys, and candy, spread out across the 20-acre retreat.   • The Port of San Diego invites the public to attend a virtual community workshop as part of the next step in redesigning Pepper Park on the National City Bayfront. The virtual community meeting will offer an opportunity for members of the community to provide feedback on three conceptual plans that are based on public input collected during previous Pepper Park outreach efforts. The site plans will showcase how new park elements – like a splash pad, group picnic areas, playground upgrades, etc. – can fit within the existing park and the future 2.5-acre expansion. As a Port of communities, the Port of San Diego’s goal is to transform Pepper Park into a resource that both visitors and residents will cherish for years to come.
  • The Golf Marathon is about having fun while helping kids start on a path to success. Join us for a day of golf, food, fun and prizes! In its 29th year, the Golf Marathon has raised over $3.1 million to provide mentors to more than 2,000 children! The event challenges golfers to play as many holes of golf in one day, while raising funds to help match children who are waiting for a mentor from Big Brothers Big Sisters. There is no fee for participating in the marathon. Golfers raise a minimum of $2,000 in donations (returning golfers) or $1,000 (rookies) and many exceed this commitment. Big Brothers Big Sisters helps golfers by providing a Golf Marathon event website, a personal web page for each golfer, and other helpful materials. Special prizes are awarded to the Golf Marathon fundraisers as an incentive for golfers to go above and beyond their fundraising goals. “With the generous support of family and friends, we raised a total of $4,095 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego!
